7 Podcasts I'm Listening to Right Now (and you should too).
If you know me at all, you know that every other sentence out of my mouth is usually, "you know, I was listening to this podcast and..." Then the conversation usually takes a turn down a never ending rabbit hole of some of my favorite stories.
People always ask me what I'm listening to these days, so here are my favorite podcasts at the moment.
1. This American Life
This is a given, so I'm getting it out of the way first. Anyone who breathes air should be listening to This American Life. Besides the fact that This American Life fills the hour it takes me to commute to work every day, it's also turned me on to some other great storytelling podcasts.
Favorite Episode to Date: Home Movies (Yes, a throwback, but as you may know, I'm a sucker for old footage and film)
2. 99% Invisible
One of the travel writers I worked with last fall told me about 99% Invisible and I was immediately hooked! If you have even the slightest interest in design (graphic design, interior design, architecture, neon signs, seriously anything), you will love this podcast. Also important to note that Roman Mars moderated the 2015 AIGA Conference in New Orleans and he is just as dreamy in person as he is on the radio.
Favorite Episode to Date: Mojave Phone Booth (I literally sobbed during this episode for no apparent reason.
3. Beautiful Stories from Anonymous People
This is one of those podcasts that I only found out about because of This American Life. I'm normally not a fan of interview-based podcasts, but this one, hosted by Chris Gethard, is so much more than an interview. Each week, Chris takes a phone call from a random stranger and has to talk to them for 60 minutes. The caller can hang up on Chris, but Chris can't hang up on them. It's beautiful to hear what each of the callers is going through on a day-to-day basis, and reveal even the darkest secrets in the mask of anonymity.
Favorite Episode to Date: Mountain Man vs. City Boy
I don't know what it is, but this podcast makes me feel all the feels. Before Radiolab, I had never cried over pottery (not kidding, I did this). These stories are truly incredible and cover a range of topics, from race and diversity to pop culture and politics.
Favorite Episode to Date: Debatable
5. Bon Appetit Foodcast
I just really love food.
Favorite Episode to Date: The Sporkful's Dan Pashman
6. The Mortified Podcast
We've all been there. Sometimes you just have a really weird day and you want to know that at some point in time, someone else had a really weird day, too. I also feel obligated to add, I would be mortified to read the things I wrote when I was a kid. So please never ask me to do that.
Favorite Episode to Date: I Hate Summer Vacation
7. It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's a Podcast
If you don't have time to read comic books, I feel sorry for you. Luckily, this podcast exists so you can get on my level. Bonus: It's produced here in Nashville!
Favorite Episode to Date: Black Panther: More than Just Marvel's First Black Superhero
